BONFYRE POEM
REMEMBER REMEMBER
THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER
AND STAND SILENT
STAND SILENT WHERE MARTYRS
BURNED FOR BELIEFS,
AND GAVE UP THEIR SOULS
WHERE WE LAY POPPY WREATHS.

AND IF FOOLS BREAK SILENCE
WITH TALK AND NOISE,
REMIND THEM OF HISTORY,
AND FAMILIES DESTROYED,
OF BOMBS ON THE TOWN
AND BRAVE LEWES TEENAGE BOYS.
FIGHTING BEFORE THEY WERE MEN.
AND HUNDREDS MORE NAMES IN BRONZE
THAT ONCE WERE PEOPLE,
JUST LIKE THEM.

THEN DEMAND THAT THEY STAND
WITH SILENT RESPECT –
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE GONE,
AND FOR THOSE WHO SERVE FOR THEM YET.
REMEMBER REMEMBER
GOD BLESS THE BONFYRE
BOYES AND GYRLS
