May Fayre : SBS - Lewes Bonfire Night Celebrations
May 5, 2014 at 6:38 pm by v
Battle of Lewes : May 10th will see King Henry 111 arrive in Lewes, to celebrate the Feast of St Pancras and to possibly battle with Simon de Montfort. Lewes Footpaths are re-enacting the march, arriving in South St around 11.30. Plan is to swell their numbers and to create a costumed army to march with the King to Cliffe Bridge for welcome by the town worthies including the mayor and the High Sheriff.
If you like to dress up and you want to be part of the Battle of Lewes celebrations then do join the King’s army. After his welcome the King and his army will march onto the Priory and the May Fayre, arriving about 1pm. So it’s about 90 mins and costumes are easy to make. Click Here For More Details
May Fayre 10th May Priory Park, 10.30 – 4.00 : Our 6th Fayre coincides with celebrations of the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Lewes so alongside our popular archery and birds, along with lots of games and craft stalls, you’ll be able to try on the armour and hold the weapons of the day, to experience the necessary amputations that would have had to happen on the battlefield, to have your fortune told and to experience a day in the life of 1264 through the equipment and clothes of those times.
Be sure to put the date in your diary and enjoy the day. Hopefully you’ll also be able to give us some of your time, whether to help us set up the stalls or clear them away or to help run those we hope will raise some welcome funds for Southover Bonfire Society SBS.
