Bonfire Boyes Battel Cry

Each year we remember
The Gunpowder Plot
In helmets and chainmail
A right fearsome lot!
Heading proceedings
The World’s oldest Guy,
‘Remember, remember’
The old Battel cry.
Torches ablazing
Collecting tins rattle
‘Cheers’ to the Boyes
And bonfire in Battel!

We’ve all stood together
Through years of tradition
The old Battel Rousers,
Home-made ammunition.
Bert led the way
He seldom was sober,
Spurs on his wellies,
‘Pips’ on his shoulder.
See the fire burning,
Hear the drums rattle,
Cheers to the Boyes
And bonfire in Battel!
